From the Inside Flap

Legend has it that hidden in the remote reaches of the Himalayan mountains lies a secret that would have saved Ponce de Leon from years of fruitless searching. There, generations of Tibetan monks have passed down a series of exercises with mystical, age-reversing properties. Known as the Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation or the Five Rites, these once-secret exercises are now available to Westerners in "Ancient Secret of the Fountain Of Youth. Peter Kelder's book begins with an account of his own introduction to the rites by way of Colonel Bradford, a mysterious retired British army officer who learned of the rites while journeying high up in the Himalayas. "Fountain of Youth then offers practical instructions for each of the five rites, which resemble yoga postures. Taking just minutes a day to perform, the benefits for practitioners have included increased energy, weight loss, better memory, new hair growth, pain relief, better digestion, and just feeling younger.

From the Back Cover

It's the late 1920s in colonial India. Driven by a seemingly irrational wish, an aging British Army officer embarks upon an adventure of discovery that leads to forbidden Tibet - an ancient land obscured by centuries of isolation; a land of wonder, where miraculous feats are a part of everyday life. There, in the shadows of the earth's tallest mountains, he stumbles on the hidden Shangri-La, a mysterious place without time where people age but somehow never grow old. So begins Peter Kelder's chronicle of Colonel Bradford, whose extraordinary adventure brings him back to the West years later at age 73, looking and acting like a man of 45! How did he accomplish this remarkable feat of rejuvenation? The secret, says Bradford, is a series of five ancient Tibetan exercises, which anyone can perform in a matter of minutes. These simple exercises - which he calls the Five Rites - restore youthful health and vitality by balancing and harmonizing invisible energy vortexes within the body. Originally written in the 1930s, Kelder's book was revived in 1985. Helped only by word-of-mouth, it soared in popularity, quickly becoming a number one international bestseller. This expanded and updated edition restores the book's final chapter, unseen in more than half a century.

Great read, did enjoy reading it, also enjoyed the other sections besides the rites, although I would have also liked to see some content in relations to the changes you expect to see while doing these rites, for example I've been doing them for just about 2 months, haven't missed the day and have increased 2 cycles per week as per the instructions, except for the first 2 weeks where I could only increase 1, anyway somewhere around the 4th week I noticed pains on both of my shoulders - seems actually in the bone right on top of the shoulder - when I touched, it hurt, though it was for the both shoulders, right one was more painful, I think the rite 4 was the cause. I did keep the rites going and it seems the pain is now starting to fade away so I am feeling a bit better but for a while I was getting a little worried and having some content in the book would have been comforting - moving forward I'm wondering if there are any other symptoms going to appear.By the way I'm wondering if anyone else had this while doing these rites or any other pains or aches, please do share ....... on the flip side if anyone starting these and having the same issue, this may help :)Once again great book, really enjoyed the read. Thanks,

I bought this book to follow up the original and was surprise to see it contradict the original almost right out the door. The original described vortex that were not linear, and clearly stated that they were not the same as the Indian chakra - How could they be when the vortexes are in both knees and the liver area - nothing that corresponds with chakras. Also, the photos - clearly added - do not do rite #3 correctly. Rites 2-5 and like ebb and flow - yin and yang. Bending your neck down does not correspond to the 'camel' position. I had wondered where people were getting the wrong positioning of the hands. Now I know.Unfortunately with the conquest of Tibet by the Chinese, this info was lost due to destruction of the monasteries and execution of its practitioners. It seems that this book may not have been written completely my Mr. Kelder, as it sets a path for the introduction of the Indian version. Lamas are not yogis. Based on what he stated in the first book, and people I know who do this S L O W L Y, as an exercise (with excellent results), the breathing points also appear to have been added to make it appear more like Indian yoga. So, for me, it is hard to see this entire book as GENUINE and written by Mr. Kelder; it has too many core differences. My suggestion: stick to the FIRST book and modify (if necessary) until you are strong enough to do them all in proper form. There are so many people offering 'modifications' that it would be nice for you to know what the ORIGINAL exercise was in its unmodified form. Heck, the Tibetans used it to transform lived for centuries - long before the modern world found them.

Short and sweet book and teaching making use and understanding simple.Only one thing I found contradictory to my studies in life was it tells that vegetable oil is better and healthier than animal fat. This is not true today but at that point I me it was being touted as truth. Vegetable fat is only good is you get it in the food your eating if it is eaten raw only. Cooking it changes its chemical makeup and then raises the risk of stomach cancer and the lack of proteins. That is why vegetarians stink badly and can at times end up in the hospital just as Gandhi did. Until he introduced animal proteins by eating fermented goat cheese and goats milk.Raw food it's are the only ones without bodily odors of toxicity.Do not eat food that is sacrificed with fire. Or what was also called burnt offerings. Sounds like cooked foot to me. No ?Cooking kills the enzymatic life in the food that does its job of perfect digestion. Thus life gives life. But cooked and killed enzymes being now dead thus brings death. Common sense science and religion is best.

My wife and I got this book and worked with it for a few months. While it is basically a good book and we found some value in it, on further knowledge it does not appear to be true to the original work by Kelder; and, the apparently unauthorized changes led into a bit of unnecessary confusion along the way. We are somewhat disappointed, and feel we were misled. To our present knowledge, Kelder's only published work on this subject was titled "The Eye of Revelation". The original was published in 1939, with a second edition containing more information coming out in 1946. Our brief research at this point indicates Kelder did no further writing on this subject.Since then, some editors/writers have apparently made changes to the original and published these altered works as if they were Kelder's original, intact. While in this case it may not have been technically illegal, this kind of thing is always problematic, in any field, whatever good intentions may (or may not) have been involved. More than simply misleading, it tends to water down, confuse, and/or obscure the original knowledge it professes to convey. Even small changes can add up to significant misunderstandings over time. This book seems to be one of the above. Some other editors/writers have added commentary or suggestions, but have been quite clear about what was original to the Kelder work, and what was not. Some of these are quite helpful and some less so, but this is the way it should be done, if one must inject his or her own ideas into the mix.If you think you may spend any time actually practicing these exercises, it would be more than worth the time to do an internet search and read up on the subject matter, and the history of the work itself before buying this book. You should be able to easily find a more honest rendition of Kelder's work. While we don't think our time with this book was entirely wasted, we do wish we had gotten a more accurate rendition at the beginning.
