Quinn and Rafe ' story is a unique read in this series. We get to understand what makes Quinn's way of thinking different , but normal for him. My favorite part of this story is the heart to heart talk between him and his mother. In this story, we see the depth of how much the family, and even Mikie, love and adore the Morgan matriarch.My other favorite scenes is the Äeep friendship between Kane and Rafe.This story is a key element in the Sinner ' s series, and one not to be missed. It shows how all the Morgans, their lovers, and the band fit together.It shows how everyone can earn a second chance, and Rafe definitely has worked hard to be given his moment to shine. With the love and support of the Morgan family, the friendship and strenght of Sionne, and the love of his life standing by his side, a new chapter is about to begin for them all.
Rhys Ford fans have been waiting what seems like an eternity for the forth addition to the Sinners Series.The wait, while long and arduous -- I personally was forced to read lots of other authors during this time -- was well worth it. 'Sloe Ride' is five stars all around. Five Big Wonderful Happy Stars.Sloe Ride is Quinn Morgan's story, one of the notorious Morgan family of San Francisco and finally next in line for happiness. Quinn has fascinated me since he was first introduced in Sinner's Gin, I was really hoping he'd get his chance sooner than book 4, but beggars can't be choosers, or some such nonsense. I am such a sucker for the lonely geek. Quinn really struggles with being 'just a little different' than his brothers and sisters. Probably falls somewhere on the Asperger or Autism spectrum. He's struggled with depression as well. His brain runs hot and his heart has ALWAYS been in love with Rafe Andrade.....*fans face*Then there is Rafe Andrade, he has also been mentioned a few times. He's a Rock Star and a Dark Horse with an addiction to prescription meds that got him kicked out of his band and removed from everything that ever made him happy. He grew up with the Morgan's and when he is at his lowest he returns to lick his wounds and maybe, just maybe, lick Quinn.Rafe is trying to get his life back together and Quinn is trying to live his. Both are so much better together. Their relationship instead of being fire crackers and big bangs is slow and gentle--a slow ride. Don't get me wrong, the chemistry is sizzling and Rhys always writes great sex. Sloe Ride is about two people who have loved each other for a longtime finally recognizing it, and becoming a healthy couple. Of course this is all happening while someone seems to have it in for Quinn. Go figure.Five big stars for Sloe Ride: across the board; story line, characters, angsty stuff and chemistry.
I think I've read everything this author has written, and particularly have enjoyed this series. That said, I have to say that this ties with the first book as the favorite in the series (so far!). I agree with one of the other reviewers when saying this book definitely had a different tone;/feel to it than the other books and it made for a nice change by increasing the complexity and depth of the series. Quinn's always been one of my favorite characters in the book, and who wouldn't love the dark, handsome angsty Rafe with such a long history with the Morgan family. The relationship between Quinn and Rafe was intense yet charming. I particularly enjoyed the way Rafe's reactions to Quinn's often tangential but fascinating rambles; they seemed so genuinely interested and appreciative about what Quinn had to say. And I think a lot of us can relate to feeling somewhat trapped by ingrained family perceptions of who/what another family member is and reacting to them accordingly, often with the best of intentions. It was lovely to see how Rafe was able to see pasts those perceptions in spite of his long history with the Morgan family, and how he often stood as an advocate or shield for Quinn. All I can say, is if you enjoy this author and this series, you need to read this book.
I think Rhys Ford was describing herself with this line, even though it referred to Quinn. She writes the worlds in her books in sounds, smells and colors. I swear I can smell the fog and feel the cold when the Sinners and the Morgan's walk around in these stories. I don't know how else to describe how much I enjoy the way she writes. Ms. Ford can even make the description of blood and guts on a car hood seem almost lyrical.I'm trying to remember if anyone in the Cole McGinnis stories or the Sinner's, has gotten together without a dead body involved. All of these books are awesome murder mysteries and fabulous slow-burn romance stories.My only complaint is that I didn't get enough of just Rafe and Quinn together in this one. She writes awesome love scenes and they are love scenes, not sex scenes. Of course we knew Rafe would end up wanting to play with Sinjin, Damien and Forest. But it wasn't easy and Ms. Ford seamlessly wove those interactions in with the murder mystery and getting to delve deeper into Quinn and his past with Rafe. Of course Brigid and Donal were always there as the underpinning for the other characters.So great to see a little more of the couples and the Morgan's from the first 3 books. You need to read them all to appreciate this one. I hope and pray we'll get more books, after all, there are loads of Morgans left. I'm hoping maybe Ian might be next and more about the band. Now, even though I don't like paranormal much, I'm going to read the rest of her books because I just enjoy her writing that much!
