The Poetry of Home paints for the reader, lovely images of what home is or means, with the eloquent words of numerous writers. It does not contain photography however. Some have the resources to erect a structure in which money is no object, but interestingly enough, the book does not dwell on this type of perfection alone. But it informs us of the thoughts of those who first gazed on a structure that they would later call home which was currently in derelict condition. The story of David Wilkersons first Teen Challenge Center, which was found filled with years of trash accumulation that had to be removed. These homely but not yet homey places remind us of those that have rebuilt life after Hurricane Katrina or some terrible catastrophe. I recall the griefs of those who returned home to find priceless antiques under 3 feet of muddy water. What to do with severely water or fire damaged floors when your structure is historic. Wildfires that have devastated generations of hard work. As I read the famous quotes about what ones home means, I reflected on the losses as well as the gains because a happy home is not simply idealism but reflects our struggles to achieve a place of beauty within our very selves that can be outwardly expressed in this word home, through perseverance and creativity and ingenuity. Where we can entertain and show hospitality, even entertaining angels unawares as scripture says. The purchase or gift of this volume might rekindle lost vision or renew hope.

Another nice book with a lot of insight to decorate with flair and beauty. Nice book overall.

I love this book. It's full of marvelous quote from writers known & unknown...to me, anyway!

The book is a gem of a production. The quotes amount to a commonplace on the subject of the 'home' which should make this a standard work for the future. My single regret is the lack of a more complete citation of the sources.

The book received was in excellent condition. After reviewing the contents, I returned the book. It was one of those book with a pretty conver and as they say, never judge a book by it's cover. I did not find it a good reference book for decorating. It was written in a flowery poetic manner with no pictures. I would not recommend this book to any of my colleagues.

I hated it and returned it because it was not an interior design book as desribed. Still waiting for credit on my gift card. It is taking a long time for the credit to appear.

Not impressed

Charlotte Moss's brilliant collection of the great muses on home and decor is lovely. This just arrived today and it is the best time of day to feast on such a prize. With the rain washing the city, the fire warming the room and this little book are just the answer. I can relay only to other would be purchasers that this gem will be pulled out and opened more than once for this is exactly what it was meant to do, draw one in over and over. Thanks Amazon once again!Jacqueline C.
