Savannah Sanders is a leading advocate in the prevention of child sex trafficking. A survivor of hardships, abuse, and trafficking, Savannah is now living a full life as a victim's advocate, wife, and mother of four. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in social work and is working with the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute as Training Coordinator for the SAFE (Safeguarding Adolescents From Exploitation) Action Project. Sanders shares her story and speaks regularly to groups across the United States on anti-trafficking efforts and ways to support victims.

I use this in a course I teach to trauma recovery coaches and survivors on human trafficking. It helps us to have a discussion, without detailed triggering case studies that are hard for people to handle. Thank you for writing a book that makes this subject accessible, even to trauma survivors still coping with PTSD.

Though dealing with a grim subject, Savannah Sanders' approach here is as engaging and it is informative about the causes and consequences of sex trafficking. As a former journalist, I recognize her critique of media coverage of trafficking, and, although it stings, it also provides guidance for more thoughtful handling of survivor-sources and more responsible reporting of the issue. The book is well organized and well written -- the callouts in each chapter are an effective way to add clarity.
The best book I've ever read on a very grim subject. Why? Because Savannah focuses on prevention and gives awesome inside information on signs to look for and has great advice on proper treatment of the victim... This was an awesome book, and she is an amazing person!

I found the book to be insightful and realistic. I really appreciated Sanders's approach. If you are looking for a book full of research and cited evidence based practice, you won't find it here, but that isn't what the book claims to do. The author particularly delves into prevention of child sexual abuse more broadly, criticizes media and community work sensationalizing the issue, and discusses trafficking from a practical "what you can do" lens. Definitely worth picking up.
As a leader of an anti-trafficking organization who desires to make a difference to those who have been trafficked, I found this book to be the most helpful in guiding me on how to mentor and serve victims and survivors from a trauma-informed approach. I could not find a book that breaks things down like this one for leaders, parents, and professionals that explains the mind of a victim from a survivor's perspective. Savannah wrote something that I will never forget. She mentions a good point, that no matter how many fundraisers and awareness events anyone has, if the root of the trauma isn't severed or attempted to be understood, then the problem continues. People are so quick to ask, "Why doesn't the victim just leave or speak up?" What we SHOULD be asking is "What kind of trauma happened in the past that makes the victim feel that can't and how they got into this position??" Great book!-Laura
I have many friends, like myself, who are survivors of sex trafficking. Daily I see in Facebook posts the fallout and consequences of going through that tragedy. I have always thought but never said out loud; 'why don't we work harder to prevent it from happening?'. The one observation and well known fact about survivors of trafficking is that we almost all had childhood trauma, usually in the form of sexual abuse. Savannah J. Sanders, author of Sex Trafficking Prevention, has written an excellent book which can help parents, relatives and others recognize the signs of trauma. This book is educational and I see it playing a role in stopping tomorrow's sex trafficking by prevention. I highly recommend this book for parents and teachers.
